HTC, LG, and Samsung all said they were fine with it, Google is doing this for the patents.

Make sure instead of always going to engadget.com which yes they are a great place for news because they have been around awhile but they are very much anti-Android and anti-anything that is not Apple. They support only apple and always give apple products better ratings then any other device.
