There are several programs for Android that seem to provide conflicting statements regarding this subject. SO does anyone really know if it is better to run on WiFi which will save on battery or 3G. Which will save battery life?

You should save power on wifi. 3g is always trying to find the best signal.

Thanks for the reply..........that's what I thought also. A battery saving program wanted to WiFi to be secondary to 3G which did not make sense..................maybe there is a typo in that program setup. I will leave WiFI to take over when ever I am at home.

Im always on wifi. When your close to a strong wifi signal your phone doesnt have to work so hard to maintain a signal. Im not a expert but, Ive used these phones long enough to get a pretty good idea on what works.

Depends on the phone, to a degree. On my Evo3D, there is an option to enable 'best wifi performance', which as far as i can tell, maintains the full speed of the wifi when the screen is off. This is in combo with my wifi sleep policy set to 'never'. If your wifi sleep policy is set to '15 minutes' or 'when the screen is off', it will turn off wifi and switch back to 3g, then from 3g back to wifi when you wake the phone. so those options will reduce battery life.
On all my previous devices, with wifi, when the screen went off the speed decreased dramatically regardless of what the sleep policy option was set to.
