We were proud to announce Vaelek joining Team ACS a week or so ago. Well he is busy in and in the kitchen cooking up some 3D goodness. So I will be posting some of his previous work for him until he gets settled a bit. Thank you Jim for the wonderful contributions!

VaelPak 4 - GB AOSP Preview v0.2.2-1

9 months after putting out VP v1, I've finally started working on a real releasable AOSP version. This build is about 3 weeks into development. I ran it all through my recent vacation to NYC, and it things are looking pretty good so far. While it is very possible to run this as a daily driver, keep in mind it is still in its infancy and there may be some issues. Right now I am looking for testers to tear it apart

At this point in time, there is no VPS. Some of the functions of VPS can be found in the Settings app, and more will be coming. Now that I am working directly with source, a lot of the hackery that VPS does can be done a lot more elegantly right from Settings. The base theme is Mattedblues. Also at this point there are no alternative theme options. I am looking into embedding the T-Mobile theme engine, which will make Theme Builder obsolete and make theming a lot more painless from your end, if I can make it all play nicely.

There are quite a few settings, and some things have been shuffled around, so make sure to take a moment and review all the areas in Settings.

This build has both 2D and 3D gallery. As there is NO sense whatsoever here, bundled alternates include GoSMS, GoContacts/Dialer, GoLauncher. I am not a huge fan of either of the AOSP Galleries, and am looking at a few alternatives for that also. About 75% of the 3.2 bundled apps have been included. This also has the consolidated widget list like 3.2. The notification pull-down has an alternate layout for the Clear button. The pull-down has not been themed except for the bottom handle. Power toggles will also now reflect changes immediately without a hot-restart needed. Min/Max CPU frequency and governor are settable right from Settings. Screen-off frequency setting will be coming.

Everything is working for me.. Camera, 3G, 4G, Wifi, GPS, flashlight, a2sd bundled, (just thought of FM Radio, not included, you guys want it?). The only thing I can't test personally is HDMI.

The included kernel is Savaged-Zen 2.2.1 CFS SBC. If you suspect kernel related issues or just don't want SBC, alternate versions can be found at HERE or MIRROR. There is now an SBC toggle in Settings > Parts > Performance. It is off by default.

The boot animation now uses the native method rather than the bootanimation.zip format (though still supported). It currently fills about 1/2 the screen. Going any larger seems to turn the whole thing solid white... The animation you see is made up of only TWO images, and will result in slightly shorter boot-times.

If dta2sd is detected to be in use, ALL built in App2SD features will be disabled at the OS level. So there will be no accidental moving going on here.

You can install VPS from the market, and it will not disable any menus. You can expect device settings to FC, and I am not taking bug reports for VPS on this rom right now, so use at your own risk. But, you may want things in the mods/apps section, like Wireless tether, the Sprint apps (NFL, Nascar, TV), which I've confirmed are all working just fine here as long as you also install the Sprint Updater (It will FC at every boot). For the adventurous, Theme Builder *should* work though results will be much better if you make it yourself as a lot of the images have moved and the ones currently available will probably not turn out how you wanted and could cause boot loop. HTC apps won't work (at least yet) so don't bother trying to install them.
