    OTA update on Jan. 24

Just got an OTA update alert on my HTC Evo Design 4g

From a quick search this looks to be the update, and I was hoping for ICS... no such luck

    OTA Update

UPDATE: Installed and confirmed this is indeed update for 'Build number: 2.12.651.5'. Looks like some widgets and apps added to 'HTC Hub' and looks like I may have lost root, should have known better....

UPDATE 2: Don't update or you will lose root. Wish I would have seen this before instead of after the update. DOH!!!

Re: OTA update on Jan. 24

    Finally got ROOT back!!!

I had to run a custom recovery and then flash the SU zip from there which has restored root.
This was originally recommended in the post by Frigid (from above), however I had some trouble loading the custom recovery and finding the correct SU zip to flash.

    Here are links to both.

    Custom Recovery (thanks to 2fast4u88)
    Custom Recovery

SuperUser.zip download (thanks to HampTheToker as his post noted below pointed me to the su zip)

    su zip download (su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip)

    Original post by HampTheToker

    Some bumps along the way...

So, originally I tried to install the custom recovery from the bootloader, however, I kept getting an 'incorrect cid' error. Finally, I was able to get the custom recovery installed via ADB directly.

Next, I added the SU zip file noted above to the root of my SD card.
Launched the bootloader (unlocked via htcdev) via 'volume down key + power button'.
From bootloader select 'recovery' which then launches the custom recovery.
Select 'install zip from SD card' and select the su zip file.
This will run the su zip.
When complete back out to main menu and reboot.
    You should now have root.

    Hope this helps!
