I do appreciate your post. I thought I had to be rooted to use the hot spot. This really helps me! Thanks. (FoxFi works fine!)

Well I noticed if I TURN OFF debugging mode and try going in through MASS STORAGE... it won't work. So I turn ON debugging and connect my USB and if I go into COMPUTER it will show a small phone which ended up being something called Droid Exporer and I can transfer files back and forth through that.
Now I have to say that sometimes it doesn't work.. so what I do is typically go through the process of trying it through Mass Storage mode (even though I know it will fail) and then yank the USB out and then turn on debugging an plug USB back and it works. Like I said in my post above... it takes some finessing sometimes lol.
Those of you talking about Tethering... is there a method of doing it do that the Provider doesn't see?
I believe you would want to remove the crapware AFTER you install the stockware back on.
When I did it, I did not even load the pre-rooted kernel, I flashed both in the same session,
and it worked as well as it is, as mentioned throughout this entire thread.
Hope that helps to clear things up, until you can get a more official answer.

There is another site is claiming to have overcome the need to reflash the stock kernel. There is no comment as to whether the locked sdcard is also an issue with that root.
Can anyone comment on that?
I hope it is ok to discuss other roots on this thread-Shabby's work is very much appreciated, but open collaboration is the heart of android right?

interesting area51 actually decided to credit someone.. normally they have just ripped my work off in teh past. if they got it working then awesome :). if they are reading this then id suggest putting their kernel source up as per GPL :P
